‘The Eclipse’ is an Irish Horror-Drama that created quite a stir when it managed to be a major draw for distributors at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, something the festival hadn’t seen for any feature film in a long time.
Ciaran Hinds plays a widower who believes he’s seeing the ghosts of his dead wife & daughter. When he meets a writer of real-life supernatural stories he starts to strongly believe his visions are true. Things get complicated when he starts to find comfort in the company of the writer & another suitor for her affections in the form of Aiden Quinn also shows up.
The movie seems to play at two different levels, one as a simple supernatural tale & another of a person moving on after having lost all those he loved & trying to hold onto something new that is worthwhile in the face of competition from another person. The trailer looks suitably creepy in parts & a few scenes did give me Goosebumps.
