Love Aaj Kal

This is a story of how an adorable oldie (Rishi Kapoor) enforces his opinion and love saga onto completely ignorant teenagers and thus destroys their lives forever; of course until the typical Bollywood happily ever after ending arrives.

The two stories i.e. love aaj aur kal run parallel; highlighting how different they are but pointing out how love drives both.

Saif plays two characters simultaneously- new age Romeo ‘Jai’ and Rishi Kapoor’s 1965 version ‘Veer’. Deepika plays Jai’s eccentric girlfriend ‘Meera’ who basically doesn’t do much in the movie, except show off her perky wardrobe and fresco skills. But I did notice her somewhere in her second half, where her monologue to poor Vikram (Rahul Khanna) made me stand up and clap.

The first half is quite a snooze, where a really ‘too old for his clothes’ looking Saif struts his stuff; singing and dancing for different reasons. In the second half the plot thickens, which makes it bearable to watch. Here Jai and Meera realise the power of love that Rishi kappor has been ranting about how they cannot live without each other. It’s nice to see the way the song, ‘Main Kya Hoon’ was conceptualised. It is used as a story telling tool where Jai’s life goes from fast paced to a drag in sync with the song’s rhythm.

Veeru’s girlfriend played my Brazilian model what’s her name deserves a special mention for her simple delicate looks and her hilarious bhangra attempt. Seems like a lot of work was put into her character but they forgot to give her any lines.
Oh and special treat for Neetu Kapoor fans in the end.

All in all it was a fresh, breezy Bollywood experience. Catch it if you got nothing special to do.
