‘The Hangover’ has been hyped beyond belief due to the fact that Hollywood hasn’t much else to offer us this year in the funny department. Still if it’s ‘’American funny’’ you’re looking for then look no further.
We join ‘husband to be’ Doug Billings (Justin Bartha) and his four friends as they head to Las Vegas for his stag party. It’s two days before the wedding and Doug brings along his two best pals Phil Wenneck (Bradley Cooper) and Stu Price (Ed Helms) and his fiancĂ©’s eccentric brother Alan Garner (Zach Galifianakis). Together they make a funny package; Phil is the bold yet immature teacher who’s up for anything, Stu on the other hand is an extremely nervous dentist who is worried that his over-controlling girlfriend will find out he’s actually going to Vegas instead of Napa Valley for a wine tasting weekend, & finally, Alan, Doug’s future brother in-law, the real star of the movie, whose character will surely be the most remembered by nearly everyone who watches ‘The Hangover’.
The movie kicks in the morning after their first night in Vegas, when they awake to a massive hangover & a slew of things they can’t explain. It seems they have gained a few things like a baby, a tiger in the bathroom & lost a few like Stu’s tooth & Doug’s future father-in-law’s car, but the real headache is the missing groom Doug. The biggest problem is that they don’t have a clue what they did last night & have only a few hours to find Doug or else they will have some explaining to do to his FiancĂ©. What follows is a hilarious piecing together of the night before from all the evidence lying around. I won’t reveal what & how, that you have to see for yourself.
Director Todd Phillips gives us some very funny scenes in ‘The Hangover’. The cast work wonderfully together and as I said earlier actor Zach Galifianakis is the hero, his character being the most loved of the bunch. Many fans will be pleased to know that Todd Phillips will begin production on ‘The Hangover 2’ in 2010 for a 2011 release & it’s going to be set in Thailand apparently.
In short this movie is a must see, it’s not the best movie in the world but it will definitely bring a smile to your face. Personally I loved the scene with Mr. Chow – check it out.
Final Verdict: See it, how many times you see it, is up to you.
