Based on the popular cartoon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender & not to be confused with James Cameron’s Sci-Fi epic is M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. The movie is a fantasy epic which is the first in a planned trilogy of films.
The plot is based in a world where people known as ‘benders’ can control the various elements of nature such as a water, fire, earth & air. Aang is the last of the peaceful race of Airbenders who can bring peace & balance to the world which is under attack from the brutal Fire nation. The plot is picked up from the first season of the animated series.
So far only a teaser trailer has been released & though it looks decent I’m not pumped up about his movie just yet. M. Night Shyamalan’s direction graph has been on the decline for quite a while now & I’ll have to see how this one turns out & with a massive budget of 250 million dollars this one better be good.
The movie also has Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel in a villainous role. It releases on the 2nd of July 2010 in the U.S.
*Update* A new complete trailer is out & does it have some amazing visuals or what! Even if Shyamalan doesn’t get the plot right (which he better not) he atleast seems to have gotten the look & feel of the movie bang on right. Have a look for yourself & let us know what you think.
