Of the big three Michael Myers, Jason & Freddy, I’ve always found Freddy to be the scariest of them all. It’s probably in the creepy manner in which Robert Englund played him or the far more creative ways in which he bumped off his victims but there was truly something sinister about him which as a kid I just couldn’t shake off.
Now Freddy is back to slice & dice some more! After numerous other horror movie remakes finally someone decided to remake ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’. Robert Englund has passed the mantle on to another very gifted actor, Jackie Earle Haley who was astounding as Rorschach in Watchmen earlier this year. The formula is pretty similar to most of the other Nightmare movies; Freddy Krueger haunts a bunch of teenagers in their dreams & ultimately kills them.
The movie releases on the 30th of April 2010 in the U.S., I’m looking forward to this one.
*Update* The latest trailer for the movie gives us more of Freddy & his devious new ways of slicing & dicing off some new teenagers. Though now I get the feeling that Jackie Earle Haley’s interpretation of the Freddy Krueger character might be more straightforward and less deliciously campy than Robert Englund’s portrayal.
