The winners at the 82nd Academy Awards are;
(The whole point of having ten nominees got washed away since anyways everything came down to the movies that would have made the list even if only five had been picked. 'The Hurt Locker' winning came little bit as a surprise because i expected 'Avatar' to pick up this one.) ( Kathryn Bigelow beat ex-spouse James Cameron & became the first ever female director to win the Academy Award. I though was kind of hoping for either Cameron or Tarantino to win.) Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart - *Winner* ( It was a lock long back that Jeff Bridges was going to win this one, his fifth Oscar nomination finally earned him a long deserving oscar. An unpardonable sin on the part of the Academy was not nominating Sam Rockwell for 'Moon' )
(Sandra Bullock pulled off a Julia Roberts & gave credence to all those countless romantic-comedies over the years by winning the golden statuette & letting people know she CAN act. It was a close race between Meryl Streep & her. Even though my personal favorites were Meryl Streep & Carey Mulligan, I think Bullock did a worthy job & lifted a mediocre movie solely on the basis of her performance & I have to say her acceptance speech was very heartfelt. On a side note it was very sporting of Bullock to personally collect her Razzie award last night for 'Worst Actress of the Year') ( This one was never in doubt & everybody else other than Christoph Waltz was just filling in the vacant spots. Eating an apple strudel will never be the same again after you have seen Waltz do it. )
( Mo'Nique just like Waltz had swept all the award ceremonies & no surprises here either. The academy loves flashy performances. Personally Anna Kendrick was the most deserving of the lot. )
( Of all the years this category has been around, this year it actually had 3 very highly deserving candidates & I'm glad 'Up' won which again was a given it would right from the time it was also nominated for Best Picture.)
( Though 'The Hurt Locker' was good, i would have picked 'A Serious Man' because it has far richer subtext about so many different facets about life, society & religion. It was a crime though that Duncan Jones's 'Moon' didn't recieve a nomination again)
( 'In the Loop' deserved to win this one for it's razor sharp wit & dark sense of humor. Jason Reitman was a sure win for 'Up in the Air' but Geoffery Fletcher pulled off an upset win with his 'Precious' script. )
(I was hoping 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' pulled off an upset win.)
(Oh what a surprise! Yet another Victorian drama winning for costumes! )
( Personally for me it was a tough pick between 'The Cove' & 'Food Inc' because they were the only two i saw out of the five & frankly though i loved 'Food Inc', 'The Cove' really got to me. I'm thrilled that Ric'O'Barry was on stage along with the producers of the film.) ( In the picture you can see the director of 'Music by Prudence' Roger Ross WIlliams & Prudence Mabhena herself in the wheelchair.) (This one was a genuine surprise & i had watched 'El Secreto de Sus Ojos / The secret in their eyes' only a day back. I was expecting 'The White Ribbon' to win all along.) (Really glad Michael Giacchino picked up the oscar for such a sublime score assured to evoke an emotional response when you watch the movie.)
