After a reign of horror movies disguised as family entertainment comes a movie that thankfully doesn't attempt at being different. It is a filmy movie, made for its very filmy audience, nothing more, if only maybe a little less.
Another typical story from Bollywood town - Sameer (Shahid Kapoor), a struggling actor comes from Delhi to become a star, meets Tina (Genelia D'Souza), a not so struggling Choreographer. Both are given opportunities into the same film by film-maker Rajeev Sharma (Mohnish Behl). Love blossoms between them.
The very same day he gets thrown out of his rented apartment and is betrayed by a long time free loader of a friend Gaurav (rather irritating!!). Circumstances lead him to take up the job of a dance teacher at a school, to feed, shelter and bath him.
Now, needless to say like most other Bollywood kids they are so irritating with their plastic smiles and forced cuteness, not to mention, horrible language! Nevertheless, the bond between them grows stronger, as they share their dabbas and a common feeling of loser-ship.
Along the way, the director Rajeev changes his mind and decides to hold country wide reality show to pick a lead for his film instead of Sameer, as promised earlier. As a challenge, he participates in the show and need I say more. The not so little kids bag their first dance competition and Sameer his first lead role in the film, not devoid of all the filmy drama, of course.
Although, not entirely fabulous, the movie isn't entirely bad either. Shahid and Genelia are rather good in their roles and make a really cute couple, too. The love story is a bit undercooked, but not without its moments. The dance sequences are well done and something to watch although I can't say the same about the songs. The camera work was decent but it was the chroma shot that impressed me.
This movie is better than most Bollywood releases of the year so far.
Final Verdict: A good choice for a lazy weekend, if you like your movies with a dash of Bollywood masala.
