A lot of hoopla has been created around ‘Teen Patti’, especially in regards to its being sent to the Cannes film festival (not an official selection just as a marketing gimmick for “Indian Cinema”) & the presence of Sir Ben Kingsley in the star cast.
Amitabh Bachchan plays a mathematics professor who comes up with a unique equation on probability which is so groundbreaking that the only place for him to test it is in the back alleys of Mumbai, in shady gambling dens (why not? That’s the safest place for college professors to test their theories). He forms a team of his students who are quite adept at mathematics & starts to see if his formula works on card games. AS more money comes in cracks begin to appear within the team & you might have heard all this before somewhere (expect for the ridiculous equation part), if you can remember a movie from 2008 called ‘21’ starring Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne & Jim Sturgess, you might be closer than you think.
The movie also stars R Madhavan & also marks the acting debut of Shakti Kapoor’s daughter. It’s directed by Leena Yadav who previously made the Sanjay Dutt-Aishwariya Rai starrer ‘Shabd’.
