‘Red Alert – The War Within’ sets its plot within the Naxal situation in India which has been quite extensively covered in the media of the late. While I’d be more than interested to watch the movie due to it’s subject matter I hope the topic is not merely used as a tool to sensationalize & make a quick buck off while it’s hot.
The plot revolves around a simple villager who gets involved with Naxal militants & soon finds a meaning to his life by this new ideology he’s sold on. He’s however left disillusioned when he finally meets & gets close to the leaders but leaving the group is an automatic death wish & with the police also after him things get more than a little difficult & he’s forced to chose between survival in a cruel world & or sacrificing everything behind an ideology.
Sunil Shetty has a way of surprising you when you least expect it, the last time he did such a role was Gulzar’s ‘Hu Tu Tu’ in 1999. The one worry I have is the director Anant Mahadevan who’s made some pretty big turkeys like Anamika (2008), Aggar, Victoria No.203 (2007), Aksar & others, so I hope this isn’t just all just jazzy packaging which will fall apart the moment you dig a little deep below the surface.
