I didn’t know Ram Gopal Varma was so inspired by Madhur Bhandarkar. Watching the trailer of Rann I’d swear it had been made by Madhur Bhandarkar & the real title was something like ‘News Channel’ or ‘Media’ or some bogus crap like that.
Following the atrocious ‘Agyaat’ earlier this year Ram Gopal Varma looks to go back to a hard hitting character piece about the media with enough sensationalism to pull the audience in & he already started that with modifying the National Anthem & creating a faux-pass controversy.
The trailer’s full of actors flaying their arms around & over-acting tinted in a blue hue captured by weird camera angles. I hope the trailer is only a tool to pull people in & the movie ends up having more sense than telling us something we already know about the media in India.
Rann stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, Mohnish Behl, Rajpal Yadav, Rajat Kapoor, Neetu Chandra, Gul Panag, & Suchitra Krishnamurthy. The movie releases on the 22nd of January 2010.
