Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Govinda, Vikram, Ravi Kishan
Director: Mani Ratnam
Plot: A contemporary adaptation of the ‘Ramayana’ though supposedly it’s only loosely inspired from the epic. The other inspiration for the movie supposedly comes from Maoist leader, Kobad Ghandy, on whom Abhishek Bachchan’s character is loosely based upon. Bachchan Jr. plays Veera a Naxalite leader in a backward rural area of Madhya Pradesh.
Our Two Cents: Well not much about the trailer, but the concept sounds amazingly deep. Anyone who understands the character of Raavan with his at times misplaced perception will draw beautiful parallels with Kobad Ghandy & the Naxal movement. Unfortunately the trailer is too brief & really gives nothing about the plot or anything else & makes Abhishek Bachchan sound like Babban (Amitabh Bachchan) from Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag.
How eager am I to watch it? Pretty eager to see how Mani Ratnam handles the subject.
*Update* A new trailer for the movie is out & it’s much more comprehensive in terms of more character shots & a clearer resemblance to ‘The Ramayana’.
