Trailer for a pretty intense looking drama.

One of the best scenes I’ve seen in a war movie was from Mel Gibson’s ‘We Were Soldiers’ when the mailman in a cab turns up at Madeline Stowe’s doorstep & she assumes he’s brought news of her husband being killed in combat & she starts praying fervently for the news to be otherwise even though she’s an atheist. That scene captured the dread perfectly any immediate family member of a soldier on active duty would feel seeing men in uniform turn up at their doorstep. I’m sure with the conflicts America has been in countless families would have had to go through that but does anyone give any thought to the people who have to break the news? ‘The Messenger’ looks to turn focus towards those very people who are the harbingers of heartbreakingly terrible news.

Woody Harrelson & Ben Foster are casualty notification officers in the U.S. Army, it’s their job to inform the soldier’s next of kin about their demise. It’s not a job they particularly like but they do it strictly by the book until once when Ben Foster’s character gets emotionally involved with the widow of a soldier.

The plot seems very interesting & the moral dilemma posed by the actions of the character would be worthwhile, plus the trailer doesn’t make the proceedings look manipulative so as to make you cry.

The movie stars Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton & Jena Malone. It releases in the U.S. on the 13th of November 2009.
