A musical inspired from Federico Fellini's 8 1/2. Watch the trailer.
2009 is surely the year of nines, the Sci-Fi action flick ‘District 9’, the animation flick ‘9’ & now the musical ‘Nine’. Nine is based on a Broadway musical which was based on an Italian play inspired from Federico Fellini’s autobiographical flick ‘8 ½’ , quite an inspirational journey for the movie I’d say.
The plot revolves around the film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) who’s going through a midlife crisis while trying to complete his latest movie. He tries to balance the various women in his life who include his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his leading lady in the film he’s shooting (Nicole Kidman), his confidante (Judi Dench), an American journalist (Kate Hudson), a prostitute he knew long ago (Fergie) & his mother (Sophia Loren).
Anyone who’s not seen ‘8 ½’ should watch it right away & I have to say am intrigued by the presence of Daniel Day-Lewis in the same role which was so memorably played by Marcello Mastroianni in the original. The movie is directed by Rob Marshall who previously made ‘Chicago’.
‘Nine’ releases on the 25th of December 2009 in the U.S.
